Internet Censorship in the Global Economy
In January 2006, the Internet search company Google launched a Chinese-language affiliate based in the People’s Republic of China, Google.cn. Although Google and the Chinese Government had differed in the past regarding content on Google’s English-language search sites — including a 10-day period in 2002 when China prevented its citizens from accessing Google — under the terms of the operating agreement, the company pledged to abide by Chinese censorship rules.
