Iran joined the United Nations on October 24, 1945. Iran last served on the Commission on Human Rights from 1992 to 1994. It is a candidate in the May 9, 2006, elections to serve on the Human Rights Council. Paimaneh Hasteh is a special advisor to the Iranian delegation to the UN.
