Brazil joined the United Nations on October 24, 1945. Brazil last served on the Commission on Human Rights from 2000 to 2006. It is a candidate in the May 9, 2006, elections to serve on the Human Rights Council. Ronaldo Mota Sardenberg has served as Brazil’s permanent representative to the UN since March 25, 2003.
