Senator Mikulski was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986. She was a social worker with the Baltimore Department of Social Services from 1965 to 1970, a member of the Baltimore City Council from 1971 to 1976, and a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1976 to 1986.
