In the current 119th Congress, the House of Representatives passed the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act (H.R. 6945), which would codify a state’s right to use Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds for crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs). CPCs, also referred to as pregnancy resource centers, are typically non-clinical organizations providing counseling and material support. CPCs first opened in the late 1960s, emerging as a counter response to the liberalization of abortion laws, with the movement growing significantly after the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
