Recent Action in Congress on Abortion Access
Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022, several pieces of legislation have been introduced to restrict abortion nationwide, though most change has come at the state level. In the second half of 2022, 50 restrictions were enacted and over 563 provisions to curtail abortion access were introduced by states. Currently, 13 states have outlawed most abortion, including Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and West Virginia, while in another 12 states — Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin …
