UN Consideration of the Political Situation in Burma

On January 12, 2007, the United Nations Security Council met to takeaction on a draft resolution calling on Myanmar’s Government to ceasemilitary attacks against civilians in ethnic minority regions and begin asubstantive political dialogue that would lead to a genuine democratictransition. Other provisions of the draft urged the Myanmar Government torespond in a concrete, complete, and timely manner to the Secretary-General’sefforts to fully enable his “good offices mission.
