Representative Peterson, of the Fifth District of Pennsylvania, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996. He served on the Pleasantville (Pennsylvania) Borough Council from 1969 to 1977, in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1977 to 1984, and in the Pennsylvania Senate from 1984 to 1996.
