In March 2025, President Donald Trump sent a letter to Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter informing her that he was removing her from her position at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), “effective immediately.” He wrote that her “continued service on the FTC is inconsistent with my administration’s priorities.” Slaughter, who Trump had originally appointed to the commission in 2018, filed a lawsuit challenging her removal, arguing that it was contrary to Supreme Court precedent and violated the employment protections set out in the FTC Act of 1914.
