Representative Ros-Lehtinen, of the Eighteenth District of Florida, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in a special election held in August 1989. She served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1982 to 1986 and in the Florida Senate from 1986 to 1989. She chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
