On August 2, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 232 to 185 to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as ”Obamacare,” through legislation that essentially would prevent the Internal Revenue Service’s from enforcing the Act’s individual mandate provision. The mandate — requiring that most people  have health insurance or pay a penalty for noncompliance unless they are exempt — is scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2014.
