Representative Clyburn, of the Sixth District of South Carolina, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992. He served as Executive Director of the South Carolina Commission for Farm Workers from 1968 to 1971, as an advisor to South Carolina Governor John West from 1971 to 1974, and on the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission from 1974 to 1992.
