After nearly 12 years of negotiations, in November 2006, Vietnam wasinvited to become the 150th member of the World Trade Organization(WTO). Membership in the WTO will give Vietnamthe protection of the multilateral system of trading rules in its relationswith other WTO members, including the United States.
