The Netherlands has been a member of the UN since December 10, 1945. Piet de Klerk is the Netherlands’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN. The following is excerpted from Ambassador de Klerk’s statement during UN General Assembly debate on July 28, 2010. The Netherlands recognized access to clean, affordable drinking water and adequate sanitation as a human right in 2008. The Netherlands attaches great importance to this human right.
