James L. Oberstar, of the Eighth District of Minnesota, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974. He served as Administrative Assistant to U.S. Representative John Blatnik (MN-D) from 1963 to 1974, and as Administrative Assistant to the U.S. House Public Works Committee from 1971 to 1974. He is the Ranking Minority Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
