Senator Lieberman was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1988. He served in the Connecticut Senate from 1970 to 1980 and as Majority Leader from 1974 to 1980. He was Attorney General for the State of Connecticut from 1983 to 1988. In 2000, he was the Democratic candidate for Vice President of the United States. He is the Ranking Member of the Governmental Affairs Committee and also serves on the Armed Services Committee, the Environment and Public Works Committee, and the Small Business Committee.
