Canada signed the Mine Ban Treaty on December 3, 1997, after destroying its stockpiled mines the previous month. For Fiscal Year 2002_2003, Canada donated $16.4 million to mine action activities. Gilbert Laurin has served as the Deputy Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations since July 2002.
