Zambia signed the Mine Ban Treaty on December 12, 1997. In 2001, it had an announced stockpile of 6,691 antipersonnel landmines, which it said it would use only for training purposes. Mwelwa C. Musambachime has served as Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations since September 2000.
