The United Nations has played a central role in efforts to reach a negotiated settlement in the Middle East conflict and secure the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to self-determination. These efforts have been guided by, among other things, two Security Council resolutions — Resolution 242 (1967) and Resolution 338 (1973).
