The United Kingdom oversaw the administration of Palestine from the end of World War I in 1917 until 1947, when it turned over responsibility for the territory to the United Nations. The United Kingdom is a permanent member of the UN Security Council. Emyr Jones Parry has served as Britain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations since July 2003.
