The following traces the sequence of events that have led to the current state of conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians. November 2, 1917 — The British issue the Balfour Declaration, viewed by Jews and Arabs as promising a "National Home" for the Jews in Palestine. 1936-1939 — Haj Amin Al-Husseini leads the Arab Revolt. More than 4,000 Arabs are killed according to some sources, mostly by the British. Several hundred Jews are killed by Arabs. Husseini flees to Iraq and then to Nazi Germany. November 29, 1947 — A UN Partition Plan calls for Palestine to be divided…
